MAKING MOM’S DAY SPECIAL ....

What can we say about our Moms that hasn’t already been said a thousand times over?  She’s the one who always calmed our fears, boosted our egos, defended our honor (even when we were wrong), kissed all our boo-boo’s and cheered us on every step of the way.  She’s also the one person we probably take for granted.  Thankfully, there’s Mother’s Day!

The celebration of Mother’s Day dates back to the early 1900’s when Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker, organized a day to raise awareness of poor health conditions in her community, a cause she believed would be best advocated by mothers. She called it “Mother’s Work Day.” After her death in 1905, her daughter, also named Anna Jarvis, began a campaign to memorialize her mother’s charitable works.  That eventually led to the adoption of a Resolution and the eventual Bill that was signed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914, officially declaring the second Sunday of May as “Mother’s Day.”

  1. It was my mother who first introduced a passionate love of coffee to me. As a little girl, the highlight of my week was going with my mother to "Coffee Club." The ladies in the neighborhood took turns hosting the weekly gathering. I felt so privileged to be connected to this elite group. The minute we walked into the home of the hostess, the wonderful smell of coffee would greet us. And I could have my regular weekly small cup of coffee. I really can't remember a time when I haven't set at the kitchen table sipping coffee with my mother. She is now 84, and I'm still blessed with our own private coffee club. She already has a Keurig, but I will be including a new box of K-Cups among her Mother's Day gifts this year. Mothers and coffee just go together, don't you think?
